Introduction

Cavaliers Cricket Club has two teams in the PDQ Cars North Essex league (currently Division 2 and 5) and a team in the Evening League.

We are keen to welcome new players who enjoy their cricket whatever their standard. We are a very economical club with membership just £10 a season and match fees of £6. Please contact us by phone or e-mail; all the details are on the Contacts page.

Pavilion Project

Our existing clubhouse fell off the back of a lorry ....

Our container has served us well!

If you LOVE cricket - please help us replace this with a smart new pavilion

If you HATE cricket - please help us remove this eyesore!

Target

Our aim is to erect a tea pavilion to complement the existing facilities at the Rugby Club giving us our own space, somewhere to serve tea and somewhere to shelter on those days when the sun doesn't shine.

The total cost of the project is anticipated to be £4,500. This will pay for a proper concrete base and the 5m by 7m wooden cabin (an example of which can be seen here).

Pavilion Fund Progress

Fund Raising Activities

We have a number of fund raising activities planned with the main event being a Prize Lottery with an attractive £500 first prize. We need all members to sell as many tickets as possible before the start of the season. We will distribute tickets to all members before Christmas.

We are also planning an pre-season event, possibly a quiz night, and will be offering a variety of membership options such as 10 Year Membership for £100.

Generous Supporters

The following organisations and individuals have already joined our drive to improve our environment, our fund now standing at £1,809;

Web Site Updates

I have added Vinnie's century against Dedham in 2004 to the official records. Two matches were recorded in a scorebook that was assumed to be new and the records were discovered when we needed a book for the evening league.

The fixture list has been transferred to Google Calendar. Everyone can view the club calendar's (one for each team) and if you have your own Google account you can copy fixtures into your personal calendar.

Laws of the Game

There has been some recent controversy around the issue of waist high no-balls. The Laws of Cricket state that;

Law 42.6 - Dangerous and Unfair Bowling

(b) Bowling of high full pitched balls

(i) Any delivery, other than a slow paced one, which passes or would have passed on the full above waist height of the striker standing upright at the crease is to be deemed dangerous and unfair, whether or not it is likely to inflict physical injury on the striker.

(ii) A slow delivery which passes or would have passed on the full above shoulder height of the striker standing upright at the crease is to be deemed dangerous and unfair, whether or not it is likely to inflict physical injury on the striker.
