Career Best 7 Wicket Haul for Stuart

28th June 2009

Stuart J's seven wicket haul including a hat-trick ripped through Great Bentley to dismiss them for a paltry 66 and secure a 9 wicket victory for the Cavaliers.

Cavaliers were in determined mood to avenge their only defeat of the season away at Great Bentley but having lost the toss were not looking forward to a long spell under bright sun and high humidity. Despite rumours to contrary Darren and Stuart took the new ball as usual; Darren bowling his customary tight line while Stuart struggled to control his line from over the wicket. However a switch to bowling around the wicket brought dividends collecting the wicket of both openers. Ray replaced Darren at the Pawsey End soon trapping the Bentley #3 LBW slogging across the line. At 43-3 Bentley were already in some difficulty but Cavaliers have previously let Bentley off the hook from similar positions and this time we were determined to press home our advantage. Stuart's seventh over did the trick as he took a hat-trick of wickets with big inswinging yorkers. With five in Stuart's bag already the Cavaliers closed in to attack the batsmen who were now intent on keeping Stuart at bay. Ray lured the stranded #4 into giving up his wicket stumped by Phil and then it was just a question of whether Stuart could get his first ever six wicket haul. After a maiden and then an over of edges for a few runs, Stuart ran in for his final over to a field designed to invite the drive and the trap worked as both #10 and #11 drove on the up to Jon R.

After a short break Simon and Jack K opened the batting with Jack soon off the mark with two trademark cuts for four of Occleshaw. Both opening bowlers were able to find some bounce but didn't bowl straight enough in the early exchanges. An attempted hook from Occleshaw led to Jack's downfall and Paul C replaced him. From here on the Bentley bowlers lost their control conceding 10 wides in as many overs; Paul making the most with some attacking shots to race to 34*.
